Journey of Malaysia's 1st Google Reference School
One of the event’s key highlights will be the sharing from Mr. Osama Yunes, IT & Development Manager of Spectrum International School (SIS) on their journey of creating a holistic ecosystem for the future with Google for Education.
Recently selected as the Google Reference School in the country, SIS is recognized by Google for their outstanding use of technology to drive positive learning outcomes. Mr. Osama shared that the school had successfully transitioned to 100% remote learning within one day during the announcement of the nationwide lockdown back in 2020.
At Spectrum International School, technology is at the heart of their educational approach. Each student has their own device and Google account, allowing them to collaborate & access educational resources and tools. SIS empowers their students to develop essential digital skills and become lifelong learners by integrating “Grow with Google” syllabus.
To ensure the teachers are well-equipped, SIS prioritize 100% Google literacy skills for all staff members. With that, teachers can effectively integrate technology into their instructional practices, creating engaging and interactive learning experiences. Additionally, 60% of SIS staff members hold Google Certified Educator certifications, demonstrating their expertise and commitment to leveraging technology in education.
The relationship between parents and the school are relatively crucial as it plays an essential role for student success. Thus, SIS’s parent-friendly approach includes utilizing Google Diary as a platform for teacher-parent communication, enabling transparent and direct communication. Parents also have access to to Google accounts, allowing them to stay informed and actively participate in their child’s education.
Besides that, to streamline operations and enhance efficiency, SIS have automated and digitized their operations using Google Cloud. From attendance management to resource allocation, Google Cloud enabled them to optimize their workflow and focus on the core mission of providing quality education.

Learn Beyond Modern Classroom
The modern classroom is no longer confined to the four walls of a traditional schoolhouse. With the help of innovative technology, students can learn from anywhere, at any time. We had the honor to bring together several industry experts for a panel discussion moderated by Mr. Syamsul Faizal, Google Cloud. The panelists includes Mdm. Chua Lay Hong from Logitech, Mr. Lenny Lin from Asus, and Mr. Mark Dave from Samsung Electronics.
In this panel session, they discussed the benefits of these technologies and how they can help teachers to create a more engaging and interactive learning environment.
Benefits of modern classroom setup:
- Engagement: Students are more likely to be engaged in learning when they are able to interact with their teachers and peers in a real-time setting. Logitech Video conferencing allows students to see and hear their teachers and classmates, which can help them feel more connected to the learning process.
- Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration between students with Samsung Flip Pro smart display. Students can work together on projects, share ideas, and provide feedback to each other with tools from Google Workspace for Education. This can help them develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Access to experts: Connect students with experts from all over the world. This can give students the opportunity to learn from people who are at the forefront of their fields.
- Flexibility: Learn from anywhere, at any time with a secured device such as ASUS Chromebooks. This can be especially beneficial for students who are homebound or who have busy schedules.
Bringing AI to Student Engagement
Google Cloud offers a variety of tools and services that can be used to improve student engagement. These tools can be used to personalize learning, provide adaptive assessments, create virtual tutors, and use data-driven decision-making.
Personalized learning is one of the most important benefits of using Google Cloud AI. By using AI to track student progress and identify areas where they need additional support, educators can provide personalized learning experiences that are tailored to the individual needs of each student. This can help students to feel more motivated and engaged in their learning, as they are able to learn at their own pace and focus on the areas that they need the most help with.
Adaptive assessments are tailored to the individual needs of each student, and they provide feedback that can help students to improve their understanding of the material. This can help students to feel more confident in their abilities, as they are able to see how they are progressing and where they need to improve.
Virtual tutors can be used to provide students with individualized instruction. They can be accessed online, and they can be used by students at any time. This can be helpful for students who need additional help or who want to learn at their own pace. Virtual tutors can help students to feel more supported and engaged in their learning, as they have access to someone who can answer their questions and help them to understand the material.
Data-driven decision-making is the use of data to make decisions about curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Google Cloud offers a variety of business intelligence tools such as Big Query and Looker that can be used to collect data about student performance, and this data can be used to make data-driven decisions about how to improve student learning.
