In the early months of 2020, pandemic-related restrictions prevented students and teachers from attending physical school. This posed a challenge for educators at EGIS, as delivering education became difficult. To address this challenge and foster a collaborative culture despite the distance, EGIS decided to use cloud-based tools from Google Workspace for Education.
Challenge
In order to maintain enrollment, international schools such as EGIS understand the importance of improving the student experience, especially during the pandemic. Students require flexible tools to work with their peers and communicate with their teachers.
The COVID-19 outbreak led to the implementation of movement restrictions, causing schools to close and disrupting the usual teaching methods of assigning and submitting classwork. This made it difficult for students to coordinate and collaborate with each other from home.
However, cloud-based tools were able to address these challenges by allowing students and teachers to interact and work together despite being physically separated across different locations.
Solution
The implementation of Google Workspace tools has provided teachers with more time to teach instead of dealing with paperwork, and has given students the ability to be more creative. Due to school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, these tools have allowed teachers to continue their lesson plans and students to carry out their studies outside the classroom with minimal delay or interruption. With these tools, students have access to everything they need to complete academic papers and share research with their classmates at any time and from anywhere. Google Forms also enables teachers to assess student learning progress through quizzes, while Google Classroom’s class recordings can help enhance teaching content through review.
Students are now frequently collaborating using Google Workspace tools like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, which encourage teamwork for research and presentations. The use of other tools such as Jamboard and Google Meet has also allowed students and staff to collaborate in new ways, even if they are not physically present in the same classroom, library, or conference room.

100% Google Classroom Adoption Rate Within 2 Weeks
PointStar as a Google for Education Professional Development Service Partner had conducted enablement activities and provided support to EGIS. This helped EGIS to be equipped with better knowledge of the functionalities of Google Workspace for Education and its ecosystem.
With the support of Google Cloud and PointStar, EGIS had achieved 100% Google Classroom adoption within 2 weeks and 100% adoption rate for all students. During the pandemic, teachers are able to conduct online teaching fully on Google Meet with ease. With this new way of teaching and learning, students of EGIS were able to achieve a remarkable growth of 25% in their exam results.
As collaboration becomes a must-have in teaching and the work world, EGIS understands the long-term benefits for students who are embracing Google Workspace before they start their careers. Mr. Mohan envisioned achieving 100% Google certified educator/trainer for teachers as the future objective for EGIS digital and technology adoption.
We achieved the best results in IGCSE in the history of the school while 90% of the teaching was conducted online. Optimizing the use of Google Workspace has helped to make this possible.
